The premise behind the AS-R 7’s development was to create a trail bike with even more travel and descending capabilities than the 575 platform, and still be a capable climber. Well, you have exactly that in the AS-R 7: 7” of rear-wheel travel in a 7.5 lb package. The main pivot location and leverage ratio make the AS-R 7 an efficient pedaling machine. But when gravity takes over, that’s when the ride really excels.
The fully custom hydroformed tubeset enabled us to optimize the weight-to-stiffness ratio of the frame. At 7.5 pounds, including Fox Float RP23, it is possible to build a 28 lb complete 7” travel bike. Pair that with a tapered headtube, a 12mm custom rear thru axle, a swingarm mounted front derailleur, ’05 ISCG mount, ‘gravity dropper’ cable routing, and an ultra stiff carbon dogbone, and you have your do-it-all bike equipped for tackling the ascents and ripping up the descents.
The tapered headtube utilizes the 15-2-8 standard, which is a tapered fork steer from 1.5” at the base to 1.125” at the top. This allows for a stiffer fork while reducing the overall weight compared to the traditional 1.5” steer tube. An advantage of this system allows for the usage of standard stem sizes.
The front derailleur mount (included with the frameset) accommodates an E-type front derailleur. Although the chainstay length is 16.9 inches (same as the 575) there is more than enough room for a single, double, or triple chain ring. Additionally, there is plenty of clearance for the high volume 2.5” tires.
The carbon dogbone not only adds excellent lateral stiffness, but also allows clearance for both air and coil shocks. For ease of shock removal, stainless steel inserts lock the dogbone and seatstay together.
With the AS-R 7, you have all the tools to take on whatever the trail throws at you, and not think twice about it.
